S60 Freeware: Step Counter (beta). Discovery: I Don't Walk Enough

Today Nokia Beta Labs has released Step Counter which does just that. Every step you take while this application is running is recorded. I decided to give this new S60 application today while at work and made a sad discovery. I sit on my ass all day.

According to Step Counter I walked for 10 minutes and took a measly 1,242 steps which added up to 0.6 miles. This was in a 8 hour span! Needless to say I sit in front of a computer all day. At first I thought maybe the application wasn't recording my steps properly, so I gave it a test. Took 20 steps and sure enough the application recorded 20 steps. As you can see in the screenshot steps are not the only thing recorded. Energy (calories burned), distance, and step time are tracked. The step time only starts when you walk and the time stops when you stop.

Step Counter keeps track of your daily stats in a diary which can be viewed as a calendar. Just like the N82's calendar you can move around to a certain day and the stats are displayed. You can also track your progress with trend charts that are automatically created. This application is extremely light so you can keep it open all day and not have to worry about it.

So if your interested in exercise or just want to see how much you walk, give Step Counter a try. Click here to download.
