Photo: The Long Walk Up A Mega Container Ship

I took this photo when I was working at the docks yesterday right before I had to climb onto the ship and get some work done on the containers. Just look at how long that narrow stairway is. The first time I had to walk up that thing my gut was turning. There are stairways much larger than that and smaller than that, of course it just depends on the ships size. This ship is called the MSC Texas and is one of the bigger ships that dock at the Port of Long Beach. The picture was taken at around 6am, about a half hour after the sun came up. The sunrise at the harbor is amazing too bad I couldn't get a picture of it. Hopefully I'll get one soon to share with you guys.

Photos: Another Day On The Waterfront

Work on the docks has been scarce lately because of the slowing US economy. Today I got a chance to unload a megaship here at the Port of Los Angeles. The N82 helped document this mostly overcast day on the waterfront. You should be able to click the images to see the larger view. Update: This post was uploaded directly from my Nokia N82 during my lunch break. My Blogger.com account provides an email address to upload pictures and words to my blog from my phone or any email device. I could have also used Shozu to add these pictures, but I found it easier to just email them to the blog account. If your interested in any of these techniques let me know and I'll go into it deeper.

Photo & Video: Work At The Ports Captured By The N82

About 3 weeks ago I shared a few images I took of my workplace at the Port Of Long Beach. Longshoremen unload massive container ships coming in from all over the world, hovering 20 ton steel boxes over their heads to get the job done. Around 40% of all imports in the United States come through the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles every year. Everything down there is huge and heavy, limbs and fingers are being lost all the time. The longshore industry have some of the highest fatality rates in the United States. I spent my break capturing a few videos and photos of work getting done on the docks. The Nokia N82 really got some great footage.

Here is a video I shot of a 40 foot steel container being taken off a ship and landed onto a semi-tractor. After the video was taken I was able to use the built in video editor and add the title you see at the beginning of the video. There was a lot more I could've done as far as editing goes but didn't have the time because it takes some time to render.

The N82 and the xenon flash did great for some of the night shots you'll see in the slideshow below. A few of them I didn't use the flash because we're really not supposed to be taking pictures because of "security" issues, so I had to be more cautious. There was already adequate lighting so it wasn't really a problem.

I'm on break right now at the port of los angeles posting this from my nokia n82. Check out the longshoremen working on there massive container ships discharging goods from china. I wonder if any of there containers are full of black n82s?
