I can't believe it's taken me this long to talk about the Conversation application by Nokia. It's been out for awhile but I just never got around to using it. Now that I have it installed on my N82 I am addicted. Basically it threads your text messages based to on your contacts. So you can text your contacts back and forth and read it just like you would a conversation in Gmail or on the iPhone. I posted a video below of how it works on my Nokia N82.
As you can see it's not integrated with my messaging application, but instead with Contacts. Conversation adds an new tab to the right of your contacts so you can scroll over and see all your threaded text messages. Right now it's still in beta so hopefully more improvements are coming. It's really a huge bummer that this doesn't replace your built in message application. For instance when you get a new text and push read now it takes you to the built in messaging, not the Conversation application. I find that really annoying. But for starting a new sms message I now go straight into Conversation. You can also make it a shortcut in your active standby or left/right softkey which is really handy if you don't want to go through the Contacts.

So far I haven't, but if you do go report it to Nokia Beta Labs so they can work on a fix. Download the version under Feature Pack 1, it works just fine. Also make sure you install the "Internet Services Support" file that is on that page.

Which firmware are you using on your N82? I'm using the 20.0.062 and conversation doesn't even start on my phone.

ok it works fine now I just had to install the internet service package on phone memory and re-installed conversations on phone memory :D great app
Downloaded, and Installed.
Works well on my n82. But i'd wish it would looked like a chat client, smaller fonts, and simplified.
yes make sure you guys first install the service package and then conversations.
i'm using the latest n82 firmware.
I was using this till about 3 months ago. After a point, when your inbox gets really full (100+) messages, the response becomes very sluggish.
Good piece of software though, if you're used to texting a lot..
Works fine here, great app! One minor problem though: it doesn't start from the active standby, I get a message "function not supported (-5)" or something.
I haven't noticed that problem. I'll look into it. Glad you guys enjoy the application.
Hey, i've been using it for a month now, works like a charm.
but not since this morning, i get a
"function not supported" error msg.
uninstall and re-installed, but doesn't fix the prob.
any fix Mike?
Sorry Fendi. Don't know what your problem would be that really sucks. Let us know if you come up with a solution. Maybe another application is getting in the way.
I found out that the problem is with the Nokia Internet Support Package 1. I reinstalled that and it worked fine. Downside is I can't use opera mobile anymore.
hey, arent there any smileys on N82?? i bought the black N82 last week & i cant find the smileys while messaging, also when i recv any mesg with a smiley it doesnt show up... it looks like ;).. please help
Installed it but it doesn't work at all when you have more than 1000 messages. Now I can't enter my contacs either. =(
