Probably one of the most annoying things with the N82 and all S60 handsets is when you need to install an unsigned application. You have to get a certificate from Symbian or try to see if "open signed" will work. It can be a real pain in the ass. Granted Symbian made it this way for our protection, so they say, but I should be able to install any applications I want. If it breaks my phone it's my fault. I'll just do a hard reset.
If your willing to take the plunge and hack your Nokia N82, do so at your own risk.
Today my pal Mark from The Nokia Blog posted a tutorial showing you the steps necessary to setting your N82 free. Follow his exact directions and you shouldn't have a problem. And if you do you can leave him a comment or go to the link he gives where the real Symbian S60 hacking experts hangout. So what are you waiting for, give it a shot.
Mark also mentions a sweet application called MagicKey that allows you to re-map most of the buttons on your Nokia N82. You can now install this if you don't have a certificate from Symbian. I haven't installed MagicKey yetso I really can't speculate on how to use it. I will be installing it in a few days to see what we can come up with.
Maybe some of you have already hacked your Nokia N82. Besides installing unsigned applications, what other benefits do you get? I know we recently talked about the N82 brightness issue being fixed by a few great Symbian hackers, so obviously thats one good use. Oh and sorry for that picture in the article, I just had to do it. Hackers is one of my favorite "cheesy" type movies.

Yes I think you should hack your N82.. I've done it since day one I bought N82 and it gives me a complete freedom.. Install unsigned application, magickey, change screen brightness, etc.. No regrets of doing this..
Please please please! Make a instructional post about xvid-divx video compression that you can watch it in N82, it would be very helpful because now i don`t even image witch program should i use for that.

Hackers, I watched that back when I was in elementary or so, I liked it. I should watch it again... I hacked my N82 when I saw your brightness hack post. Though I'm not sure if I should keep it since my battery drains pretty fast when I use Opera ( it's because it's using the medianet too..but it can't be using that much power! ). I really like being able to install unsigned applications, though you always need to be careful since the applications are granted all permissions. There was an interesting application called ShakeLock that allows you to shake your phone to unlock it. I may switch my talk keys with the clear and menu keys since it's easier like the N73.
Yes ShakeLock works very good indeed, for some reason though I'm worried it will loosen the components in my phone.

you should always do a backup up but if you do all the steps right you won't lose any apps.

Depending oh which method you use to hack it will prevent different measures to restore it, Each hack then needs to be removed differently, all Hacks which disable the security (which allow theses mods) are run in RAM and when restarting the phone will need to be started again, the files and mods theirselves will remain on your phone until you manually remove them, theres no nice package to switch each on off as yet! Its always nice to see some fight back to the Nokia phone lock down. They use the excuse of safety while it looks more like a comercial angle like Apple and the Mac O/S, Even though S60 is supposedly the most popular smart phone O/S I would rather see it more like Windows Mobile as fredom of choice to install whatever.

Firmware V30 is until now, UNHACKABLE! I recommend sticking to the older stuff until there is a proper hack for that... Otherwise it's hard
hello everyone. i try to hack my n82 with "quick hack kit" which i found in www.dotsis.com. but it doesn't give me good results, all the apps, themes and games that im trying to install is corrupted according to my phone. it displays "file corrupted" message everytime i install those apps.i want to delete the quick hack kit but when im trying to remove it in the application manager, it says that "removing failed". now how can i uninstall thiss hack kit? pls help me guys... im in v20.

i hacked my n82 firmware 31 while hacking i had copied sys/bin/installserver.exe into "y" drive then i formatted my phone then i continuously getting the problem while installing the software like indisms, bestprofile. i tried to hack my phone again but it cant hack.so please give me suggestion to remove sys/bin/installserver.exe from y drive. i used mapdrive method & Drakkarioussisfiles method to hack but it wont work. i given my to nokia care but they said "this is the first case they have ever seen"
