Got My Hands On The N82 Black - Initial Thoughts

Well I finally got to see a Nokia N82 black in real life. Having it in my hand looks just as good if not better than all the pictures posted. All the buttons feel a lot more solid, but maybe it's just because the phone is brand new. Thanks to WOM World for hooking me up with the phone for a few weeks so I can share it here with you guys. I have now decided that I eventually need to get one of these. I like it way better than the titanium color, even though the black is more prone to fingerprints. Right when I pulled the phone out of the box I realized that it was covered in my fingerprints almost instantly. You really need to keep one of those soft clothes nearby. The black color just looks a lot better especially for a guy. Plus I've always enjoyed having black phones better than any other color.

Anyways, here are a handful of pictures I've taken of the N82 black version. I know you've already seen plenty so I didn't got overboard. Just basic closeups and different angles.

note: the slideshow is in flash and may not be viewable from some rss readers. full the full website if you can't see anything.

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

One thing I would've asked for is a more matted surface instead of glossy and shiny. Like I said before the black is more prone to fingerprints, and I think this could've been helped by having less shine.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below. I'll have a more in depth review over at Symbian-Addict where I do all of my phone reviews.

Any difference in the D-Pad area. I ended up pressing the center button instead of the left one in about 50% of my attempts while testing the menu navigation on the silver one.

The D-Pad seemed very loose and free moving and not suitable for games where fast movement is required.

I have ordered a black one but its not yet available in my city.

hi dileep.

i have noticed the d-pad is slightly different. it feels like the center button is deeper and the directional buttons are more raised around it. feels like i have more control over the d-pad.

has anyone else with both phones noticed this?

Hi MIke, I'm also one of your... I got mine, I bought it in Belgium in a telecom shop. They sell it at 455€.
It's cheap regarding the capacities of this mobile.

i just got my black n82 today as well. it is actually quite small and looks a lot bigger in the pictures you see on the internet. Everything about the phone is superb so far. one thing to note is that the keys are extremely small so if you have a giant thumb you might have problems with the keypad.

I've had my black N82 for 2 weeks now; absolutely love it! It's way way way better than the titanium :p (no offense to anyone tho!)

I'm having the squeaky keypad problem though...not a huge pain, but can get annoying at times. Apart from that it's perfect. A powerful little thing!

hi Mike,
just want to let you know that my auto-keylock problem solved !

One things i don't understand is why the phone keep frozeeeee :(

do you have the latest firmware? My n82 black came with the latest firmware and haven't seen any freezing yet. Everything works great. I can't believe how many features are on this phone, it is amazing. I do notice my keypad makes little squeaky sound as well. it could be because i haven't removed the sticker of the keypad and it's brushing against the buttons. :)

Hi All,
I have had my Black N82 for about 2 weeks now, and I had the silver version before.

Not much difference really, except I do find the direction pad is a lot more user friendly.

In person, I prefer the black version although I had voted for the silver one when I saw the pics online.

Nice site by the way!

Purchased brand new black N82 from from thenerds. Its a great phone, I am very happy with it. However as lots of people posted here, mine also makes creaky noise when I press red hangup key. This key is most difficult to press and doesn't give comfortable feeling like the green one. Seeing its a common problem, I am not sure if I should send it to Nokia repair center. BTW, Its made in China ( like everything else that's sold in US market )
thanks guys, this is a great sitte

Hi all i have a titanium version and Parijat dont blaim china mine is purchased in serbia in nokia store, it is made in finland and the same problem appears, d pad is so bad i have feeling like it is going to fall of, green is ok, but the red one does not make a click when i pree it, also the clear button got stuck, my girlfriend bought a black one in same store it works great and keypad is ok, so i advice to all of you not to look on color, but to insist on testing phone before buying it, only way to be sure that you won't get the annoing keypad sounds, hope this helped, and besite the keypad one really mighty phone, especially the xenon flash i really use it alot and combined with carl zeiss optics it gives a quite good pictures, so you wont have to carry camera with you if you go to party just bring n82 and you got all you need gps, movie player, camera, gaming gadget, all you need really. . .

The Nokia N82 is def. getting harder to buy new, particularly in black. If you live in the USA try wiredia.com, nokianam.com or welectronics.com. Im from Australia and just bought a black unlocked N82 from topbuy.com.au. Good luck!
