Firmware Update For The N82 - Version 20.0.062 - Lots Of Big AND Small lmprovements

I just read some great news for Nokia N82 owners. The N82 is due for an upgrade and we've known for awhile now that it was coming. I've posted here at the blog about the Flash enabled Web Browser and built-in geotagging being added. This is indeed coming true!  We also complained about the problems with the phone freezing when plugging in the headphones. Looks like this is going to be fixed as well.

Nokia N82 fans can now watch Flash lite content such as Youtube, Google Video, Break.com (one of my favorites), flash videos on sports sites such as ESPN.com and Yahoo! This is simply awesome.

Teo from Symbian-Freak has got wind of of the full changelog and it looks we're gonna see many improvements to the phone. The new version is 20.0.062 and should be available on your Nokia Software Updater by the end of the week, but keep in mind sometimes it takes slightly longer for certain regions. You can also go to a Nokia Care Center and see if they'll update the firmware for you.

Here is the changelog that Symbian-Freak is claiming...

New features/functionalities:

  • Location tagging functionality added
  • Widgets enabled
  • Flash Lite 3.0 support
  • BT AVRCP protocol support

Stability:
  • When plugin/plug out USB or TV out cable phone crashes
  • Phone freezes during music play
  • Phone resets when pressing end key during alert

Messaging:
  • Cannot receive SMS for some operator who support 'Replace type' of message

Camera:
  • Camera overexposure improved
  • Automatic screen rotation angle improvement

Browser:
  • Stability improvements
  • Memory leak during phone call and browsing corrected

Memory:
  • Memory leak corrected in browser
  • Memory leak corrected in CPSSignal

Gallery:
  • Crash while file name included %marks is highlighted
  • DRM video thumbnail corrupted
  • Gallery crashes when video call is make from contacts

Click here to head over to the original Symbian-Freak article to see the full changelog  and have your say in their discussion.

I haven't seen anything as far as an update goes on my NSU. Let us know if you get yours updated and tell us about the new features.

I've had my N82 since January and the battery life and power management has been great thus far. I take pictures, make calls, use WIFI, play games on N-Gage and I'm still good for 2 days without charging. Considering the usage, it lasts pretty long. Looking forward to this update though. Random resetting isn't cool.

Just got my N82 a couple of days ago and checked the system update tool today. 20.0.062 is available and I am getting firmware updated as I type.

Picture location tagging and browser updates will be very nice.

Regarding the two other posts on battery life, I cannot get a full day usage with the N82, so I would also enjoy battery improvements, but don't mind considering the amazing functionality I am getting out of it.

I'll post about the upgrade if anything really stands out, but as I mentioned I am new to this phone and the platform - update has been stuck at 15 minutes for over 15 minutes... :|

I got the update yesterday... up to now no more media players lockups. The phone looks more responsive and the geotagging feature works like a charm, making this update a must for everyone. I got my via Nokia Software Updater and it was a hassle free installation.

@ Miko, no leave your memory card in during the upgrade. No reason to take it out.

@ Sam, did you find the update? Plug your phone into your computer and launch the Nokia Software Updater in PC Suite.

I am killing my self to upgrade the N82 firmware 20.0.062. Each time when nokia software updater reaches the step 3, my phone shuts down and sw updater gives message "remove the battery and continue recovery". I tried the whole process again and again but no luck.
Does any one know why its like that. Thanks
