Sports Tracker, Food Consumption, Exercise & My Nokia N82: It's Time To Get In Shape

I've talked about Nokia Sports Tracker before but it never had to do with me exercising. Reason being is because I normally don't work out. But lately I've been realizing that I'm starting to get a pretty nice beer belly, probably because of too much beer. As the hockey season (NHL) approaches here in the states there will be no doubt even more beer consumption while watching LA Kings games. I decided that it's time to get into shape. A 23 year old guy should be getting plenty of exercise right? I have also found other ways to whip myself into shape with the help of my Nokia N82 including food tracking and phone profiles. Keep reading...

Sports Tracker

Today was my first day of exercise. Using Nokia's Sports Tracker application that came pre-installed on my black N82 I'm going to track all my cardiovascular exercise habits. I cn view my workouts online or on my phone and share the workouts with others.

What Nokia Sports Tracker keeps track of: Location, start time, duration, distance, speed, pace, altitude, steps, step rate, and energy used.

There are many different views and charts on your N82 to read your workout data. You can choose to share your workout in real time on the Sports Tracker website or upload it after you finish the exercise. You can keep your workouts private, share with friends only, or share with the public.

Sports Tracker keeps all your workouts on both your phone and the website so you can track your improvement. You can save routes and create new activity types. The default activities to select before you start the workout are walking, running, cycling, and skiing. Under each activity you have a set of options you can modify to your liking.

All pictures and video you take during the workout are uploaded and embedded on your Sports Tracker page on the map. If you don't want to add the media to your page you don't have to. Unfortunately I didn't add any media during this workout I was too busy huffing and puffing.

Sharing Your Workouts

If you have a blog or social profile page you can share your workouts by giving the link to specific workout or embedding the trail in a website using Google Maps and the .kml file that Nokia Sports Tracker gives you.

Map of Mike's Workout: Day 1

As you can see I really didn't run far. If you click on the red trail you can see some of the details of my run. The total distance was only 2.6km, or 1.6 miles. I ran for about 19 minutes with a few breaks in between and if you see the icons towards the end of my run they show they show my highest point and fastest point.

It's much better however to view the entire workout on the Sports Tracker website:

Click here to see my workout. As you can see it looks much much nicer than the map above.

There is also a widget that you can embed in your website that gives you a more flashy look than the map above. I don't use it however because it seems like it really slows down my computer and webpage. Click here to learn more about the widget at The Nokia Guide.

Have you already signed up? If not - What Are You Waiting For? Get In Shape! I know I need to I was dying after my 1.5 mile jog to the park and back. Click here to create your Sports Tracker account. Also make sure to download the latest version of Sports Tracker which can also be found on that page.

If any of you use Sports Tracker or start one up it would be great if you can make me your friend so we can share each other's workouts for motivation. My username is mikealive. I just checked the Community page and didn't see anyone else in North America using Sports Tracker in the past few hours. Come on peeps!

Tracking My Calories & Food Consumption With My N82

My lunch after the run. Not very health huh?

Another thing I need to do is start tracking my food consumption. I pretty much eat a ton of junk food and unhealthy stuff like ranch dressing with my french fries and ketchup. My girlfriend nearly takes my head off when she sees me eating like this. Check out these tips that have helped me realize how unhealthy the food I eat is and how to control my eating with the help of my Nokia N82.

Do any of you use My Daily Plate? It's a great site to help keep in shape endorsed by Lance Armstrong's "Live Strong" website. My Daily Plate allows you to track your diet by entering what you ate each day and it calculates all the nutrition facts and gives you all the numbers you need. I love it because you don't have to know the facts yourself. If you've had Jack In The Box I'd just type in Jumbo Jack in the search then select it.

The site can tell you what your daily intake SHOULD be based on your size, age, and physical activity. Using the Active Notes application I write or take a picture of everything I eat throughout the day as it's easy to "forget". At the end of the day I sit at the computer and log all my food at the Daily Plate website. I can also use the full version or mobile version (with gold account) of the site which actually works really well for either version. Since multitasking is so easy on the N82 I'm able to Copy & Paste my meals from my Notes to the browser.

Since it's also community based you can chat in forums and make friends for motivation. You can find my profile on My Daily Plate here.

Creating A "Workout" Profile To Launch Applications, Bluetooth, Etc. With One-Click

Some of you might have missed my review of Best Profiles the other day where I showed you how I have created a profile called Workout. Whenever I switch to that profile all of the following processes are started automatically:

1. Bluetooth is activated automatically for use with my stereo bluetooth headset.
2. The Sports Tracker application is launched.
3. Music Player is launched.
4. Theme is changed to a more visible theme for bright sunlight.
5. When my workout is over I can set it to close down all these applications automatically and switch another profile or just leave them open.

After about a week of use I've come to love the Best Profiles application.

Has anyone came across other ways to track your workouts?

I'm looking for an application to track my weight training that I will be starting. For now I will just use the Active Notes application to record everything I do and start an excel file.

Do you use Sports Tracker or any other methods of staying healthy with your Nokia N82? If so let me know I can always take some pointers.
