Last week we talked about what current features can be improved upon. Now I want to talk about features that we don't have that should be added. There are always big and small things that can be added that would make the phone extremely more useful.
For instance...
1) Add possible words to the T9 predictive text. While I'm typing out a word I should see a small list of the most common words I use that makeup the letters I'm using. Halfway through the word I can select the one I want instead of having to type out the entire word. This has been implemented on the Nokia E71 and E66, there's no reason why we shouldn't have it.
2) Add new emails to standby screen. I know we probably won't get this because it's an Eseries exclusive. Nokia does this to keep the Eseries more "business" centric. I really think they need to break away from this since the majority use their email for personal use rather than business. I have a feeling it's pointless for me to even ask for this.
3) Remote Phone Lock. If your phone is lost or stolen you can send a text to it with a code and it will lock down your phone and make it unusable. Another Eseries exclusive. Come on Nokia I don't want anyone to have access to my contacts, emails, etc. either.
4) Add support for full screen wallpapers. This is a no brainer. Why don't we have this feature yet Nokia? I don't mind if my active standyby icons are blocking anything, just leave it up to me. No reason we shouldn't have this already.
If you didn't notice all three of those ideas are Eseries features. I and my girlfriend have been playing around with an E71 for a few weeks and have grown to love the small features of the Symbian OS on that phone, although I missed out on lots of good photos that the E71 just couldn't do. Ravindra from Symbian Life Blog wrote up a great article a few weeks ago about what the Nseries can learn from the Eseries. It's really worth a look.
I know there are more new features that you all would like to see added. I'm pretty sure we won't get most of them but I'm curious to see what N82 users are actually missing out on that maybe other phones have.

Yes T9 predictive text input should be improved like on my old Nokia 6630 S60v2 with eZiText from www.zicorp.com take a look:
http://www.blogs.s60.com/tommi/images/zi_predictive_text_suite.gif
Then I like to could rotate the standby screen also like the menu, and I like to could rotate the screen in both sides!
One of my Favourites would be a Fullscreen Caller's Picture instead of the tiny thumbnail.
One of the feature that i really would like is the ability to change my standby screen like the E series.
When do people predict the next firmware update will be?
(o:
Would love to adjust the timing on the Snooze function for the alarm so it rings every 10min, not every 5!!
Yep, the predictive text list should be a definate.
I always miss not having a recentley texted contact list. Rather than having to find the persons name in Contacts all the time; it could give you the last 5/10 names/numbers you sent a text to as an option to send to before full search. The 6233 had it, as did my previous Sony Ericsson.
i've been using e71 as well as n82 and trust me, those nice little features on e71 make it much more user friendly than n82. it's hard to imagine that the screen size of e71 is actually a bit smaller than that of n82. very good phone and i just loved the qwerty keyboard. only thing missing is a good camera. deliberate? you bet!
1- The details in the sms message
2- A big picture when someone is calling or send you a messege
3- Set a ringtone for a contact
T9 Predictive text enhancements are a MUST!! How is it possible that my $500 N82 doesn't have this but my tiny old POS (in comparison) SE T610 does... actually, ALL my cells have this and not the N82 .. WEIRD!!!
A timer and a stopwatch would be nice.
maybe a video editor...though I don't know if I would really use it. and more screen brightness anyone? maybe transitions between menus or even a new interface. why not?
Hi!
I wish me unlocked display light brightness without the hack, and that this works with the light sensor!
For those who text or sms frequently, all of the extra key presses when having to select contacts each time you create a new message, particularly if you have a large/detailed contact list, is very frustrating - again, no other phone/Nokia had this impediment.

3- Set a ringtone for a contact
I believe you can already do that. Go to 'Contacts/Phonebook', select a contact and choose open. Hit options and select 'Ringing Tone'
I use the multi-media key Contacts tile for quick texting. I have the people I text the most often in there and all it takes is a quick press of the multi-media key, scroll to the person I want to sms, and press enter. It opens up a new sms with their name as as recepient. It's the closest thing to a "recently texted list" we have...
There is already a video editor in the n82. Just select a video in the Gallery. Click Options, Edit. You will have the option to Merge, Change sound, Add text, and Cut. I believe Ricky from Symbian Guru edits his "driving with the guru" vids on his n95.
Personally, I would also like the Standby screen to rotate and show new texts/emails. Email and text aren't only used for Business afterall..
My biggest annoyment is with the auto rotate screen. I want to block some programs that freeze with it, rather than lock it for ALL programs. I would want it to work when seeing pictures, but not with anything else, per example.
#4 is the most important!!
not having a full wallpaper is the biggest disappointment ever...almost makes me wanna sell my n82 grr
z
- landscape mode on stantdby screen
- faster pop up of running apps when u hold down the menu key (or add settings just like the jbak taskman)
- auto rotate options just like anonymous said. the auto rotate irritates me when typing a message on a moving vehicle, playing a game, or when using the phone while lying down my bed. i think this is the reason why iphone only rotates the screen on gallery or watchin videos. but autorotate options would be great.
- exposure compensation on video recording? or settings of light exposure cause the automatic exposure setting darkens the subject when taking videos with a very bright background, a bright sky for example.
posting comments does not work on my IE6. or is it just my pc? i used firefox.
1. faster menu browsing, faster application manager
2. wifi searching bug on the standby screen
3. installing prompt bug when certain themes installed on memory card
4. * A big picture when someone calls you or sends you a message, like the 5610
5. faster gps lock
6. faster boot up time, boot up takes more and more time when lots of applications are installed even tho theyre not on auto start up
Searching contacts needs to be improved, either give option to "filter word begins" like jbak taskman calls the same feature or atleast have it so that names starting with the letter appear on the top. Searching for names like sam should not need more than 1 letter.
I'd love to have the picture tagging feature of FP2. (I mean words, not location)
Timer and countdown functionality in the clock application should be essential but can at least be provided by separate apps.
Also the screensaver clock should be as good as cClock.
A better video editor like the n95 has would be cool.
Auto rotate could be enhanced.
The automatic wifi/packet internet connection switching from FP2 would be cool aswell.
Ciao,
to #4 I would add, be able to set Flash Lite wallpapers. You can set FL screensavers but not wallpapers !!
Alessandro
The possiblity to silence the camera shutter (Sound Off).
Gorm
i would like to have smileys and animated smileys at N82. like my sonyericsson p9901 have.
Lasse
If possible & if the hardware exists as seen before, the navi wheel should be enabled...
And the speakers should be made a little more louder...thats what I'm waitin for & hopin for in the next firmware
On standby off back light first key pressed should turn the light on then 2nd key pressed activate the functions so you can see what functions you are activating, just like all Sony Ericssons.
I only need one thing to make the music playback a lot better: I want an option to stop playing music over the speakers when i accidentally unplug my headphones (for example while in public transport).
the iphone and ipod touch have this function!!
Wow what a huge list. Funny thing is most of these are simple fixes for Nokia. Nothing big here.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned how the N82 deletes the word you're typing in an sms if you trigger the auto-rotate. This is SO annoying when you're writing on the move or while lying down.
Addtionally, I'd like to see a no-frills theme built in with completely black background and white or light grey text.
Don't know if it's just me being thick and overlooking something but I would like to be able to determine myself, what if anything, I want to show on the main screen (i.e. I don't want the Search line and WLAN I don't need to see all the time). That would free up space for the picture of my girlfriend.. :-)
I generally think the sound is pretty bad. My first phone I sent off for repair after a week, and a month later I got a new unit which was just as bad. Then I gave up.
i love what my other nokias are doing with the timed profile. With N82, my phone is always left at silent mode because it does not support timed profile.
My n82 doesn't erase the words in my text when i rotate the phone. i would be pissed too.
a quick launch application like in SE or like smart settings. i hope nokia will enable putting sms inbox in standby menu as shortcut
@ previous comment... I have got the quick launch application covered here, search for T9 Nav
- fullscreen caller ID
- menu transitions, as seen on the n81
- conversation app as default messaging app(but still with the other options we have now)
- something like the "t9 nav beta" app
- accelerometer options
- option of when to lock the phone (I would like it to unlock when a text message is recieved, in the same way that it is unlocked when recieving a call)
- time displayed on messages
- costumizable standby, as in feature pack 2
- timebar app standard
Speech/Message Reader app - lower end s60 phones like 6120c support this
ability to modify the sensitivity (sp?) of the accelerometer
timed profiles
menu transitions a la E66
Same to Alessandro,
Flash Lite wallpapers. S40 already have this feature, why cant S60
