Thanks to Mr-X from Finest Fones Blog for bringing it to our attention that there is now a way to increase the brightness of your Nokia N82. This has been one of the major gripes since the release of this phone. The picture (credits to Mr-X) above shows the N82 next to the N95 with equal brightness, something that has never been seen before. Update: It seems as though P@sco may have been the one behind this hack.
This is a huge accomplishment by members of the Symbian fanbase for finding a way to hack this and enable us to make the N82 screen better. It's just sad that it has to be done this win, big thumbs down to Nokia for not listening to our calls. Now Nokia, you will have many customers out there with hacked phones installing whatever applications they please without any restrictions at all. Congrats.
In order for you to perform this you must first hack your phone. I'm not sure how easy it is but I'm going to try it as soon as I have a few hours to sit down at my computer, hopefully tonight when I get off work.
First you can watch this video where Mr-X shows you the steps to take after your phone is already hacked.
Click here to go to Mr-X's tutorial page where you can also find links to hack your phone. Good luck and I'll be posting about this again hopefully with success in a few days. Let me know if any of you have success and let us know how it went.

It must be noted that adjusting the brightness is not possible after this (the display remaining at full brightness always). Also a great hack would be "retaining of camera settings" (meaning that once we set the exposure, grid or whatever, it stays that way after reopening the camera)
So it's permanent no matter what? ( Can't hack it back? ) Anyways this is great news, though I'll hack it later when my warranty is over..
Hi all,
Greetings from India. This is great news. It was incidentally Bullet_93 from Nokioteca who succeeded in making this patch. I have tried it and the screen now looks awesome. It does not allow modifying the brightness but if u delete the patch then the original settings are restored. I have tried both the things. Hopefully the newer firmware update coming in July will also fix this out of the box.
Regards,
Karan.
Hi am getting a funny link when trying to get the 102000c8c.txt file! Is it only me?
Hey,
This is a proper good trick :)
My n82 screen looks amazing now and really shows off the quality of the device.
Thanks for the post and to Mr-X
Dan
How bout battery life after the patch?
Battery life is even bigger with this patch!if you go to settings and see the brightness adjustment after the apply of the patch, you will notice that even your screen is full bright, the etting is set to minimum, tricking the device nterface!!!COOOL...I am using the patch 2 days now with phone open during night, and only 1 dash down from battery...
Increase in battery life? That sure is interesting. Perhaps I'll hack the phone after all...especially since it'll allow me to install unsigned applications.
Wow! What a difference. If you're theme has white lettering, you'll really see the difference. The lettering is almost too bright. It really jumps out at ya. The hack is super easy to do, I did it in only a couple minutes. Definite improvement. I think the keypad is brighter as well.
Help! i can't find private folder on my C drive.
Problem solved, this is what we all N82 users wanted and Mr.X made it happen. Thanks man! you save us all.
You know what guys I still haven't got a chance to do this hack. Nice to here its working out for you.
no offence but its pretty stupid to believe that battery life increases after an increase in screen or even think that. Unless there has been some power management tweak, if anything this is done by lowering brightness and I think this is what Nokia did to improve battery life, I don't mind the lowered brightness. Although i think the brightness level should be there if people want it.
The biggest battery drain on a laptop is the back light on the LCD so i imagine this is one of the impacts on a phone as well, although of course it wont be on as much, but my point is to show it does affect battery life.
Truth be told i think the N82 has the poorest battery life of any phone i have ever owned i can barely pass two days, ive been in the situation twice now where my phone has died on me. Still a good phone but you cant deny that its battery life is a flaw.
yeah i don't see how the battery life would increase. that makes no sense.
i have to charge my n82 every night and sometimes dies before one day is up.
Is there any way we can increase the speaker volume (external) too using any of these techniques? Its embarrassing to play my N82 next to a N95 8gig or the N81!
Saksham, I wish there was a way but I don't think its possible. It will probably make the N82 speakers sound distorted and pop.
Saksham, its embarassing to do that but it sounds better than n95 8gb or n81, so i tell my friends "you have the loudness, but where is the quality if you need to enjoy music from loudspeaker." they back off.
And its not possible that this increases battery life but i have watched two whole movies from just two bars down and was left with one bar and with no low battery warning. (3hrs and 30 mins)
Thank you very very very much!!
I really appreciate it! :)
Can someone spend a little bit of time for thick people like me to perform the brightness hack?
Watching the video, all simple - til he says "activate CAPSOFF" WTF?!!!
Capsoff is.........?
Is it simply assumed that everyone has Capsoff installed already, and if not, why not assume that there are people like me who just want a SIMPLE explanation in laymans terms (step by simple step).
I'm almost to the point of throwing the phone at the wall, it's getting me that worked up!!!
Anyone PLEASE?
Thanks :-(
Does the "Stealth" theme by Pizero still work if this hack is done?
