Protection For Your N82. Do You Cover Up?

I personally don't use phone protectors or cases unless I know I'm going to be doing lots of physical labor or movement. I have a generic phone holster that I use when I'm doing certain jobs on the container ships or when I go hiking and running. Other than that the Nokia N82 just stays safely in my pocket. I find them annoying and bulky, so I don't use them every day.

Phone protectors and cases are very popular though, and I'd like to know some of your solutions to casing and covering your N82.

Steve Litchfield from All About Symbian created a great article a while back ago looking at a few different cases and coveres for the Nokia N82. Out of the six cases he reviewed my favorite was the Noreve N82 Tradition case. The brown leather would look so good protecting the black N82. Check out the image below...

Til now I have not used any cover for my N82. But last week I was in a very dusty and dry place and because of the very fine dust I got everywhere and in my pockets, the display glass didn't look good at all. I ordered a new display glass, a little tricky to change myself at first but then really simple thanks to a link I found:http://www.scribd.com/doc/2440938/Nokia-N82-Disassembly Just have to be careful. I am thinking of getting some kind of cover but have not found any I like yet.

Hey Mike,Why don't you try a crystal cover?
It's been one n half years since I've bought my N80,And from the very first day I started using a Crystal cover(Its a Cheap one costs only 1 dollar here)And now the cover is pretty much scratched,But when remove it the phone looks almost brand new.
Its true that the pouches and carrying cases are way too bulky.

invisible shield anyone?

I use a ghetto invisible shield-like solution. I usually order a pack of 20 Fellows touch-screen protector and trim them to protect the LCDs and other areas (back side of a phone?)... this keeps the mass small and cheap to dispose... provides a bare minimum protection.

Use a Golla Mobile pouch, bit Bulky but its worth it when you pop out a shiny like new N82 black, I waited long enough for the thing so dont want it full of scratches just yet. My Mrs calls it my "man bag" but Not bothered. If someone could invent a product that could wipe out scratches on the screen/casing etc thay would make a mint.

Cheers

I use a micro-fiber sunglass bag. Perfect for preventing scratches, it's low friction so it slips easily in/out of my pocket, and I can use it to clean fingerprints and dust from the camera lens.

"..use it to clean fingerprints and dust from the camera lens."

fingerprints are cleaned from the body of the phone. Having fingerprints on the camera lens is not a normal occurrence.

Wow those are some great suggestions. So far my favorite is the micro-fiber bag. It probably won't protect from falls but it surely will prevent scratches, maybe better than anything else. My favorite case is still the brown leather one i have pictured.

I want my phone to still look good, but give good protection.

I've got an invisible shield for my N82 but since all the factory protector pieces are still hanging in there I have yet to put it on...

I am a fan of Trinity cases. Here you can buy this case. Worldwide shipping. Best cases I ever seen. My choice - Uni case with plain leather backside.

Wow those cases look very solid. I'm getting a case in the mail in a few days to test out, I'll review it for everyone and tell you how it is.

Did you get that Trinity case yet? If so, how's the fit/quality? Does the leather in the back block the flash at all? Thanks for the help

Mike Macias said...

No I haven't gotten the case in the mail yet. I think theres a problem with the post office.

Hey Mike, anything yet? I'm ready to pull the trigger and order one but I was going to wait till you received yours. Thanks

You know what the case that came isn't the trinity case. It's a different one and I'm not impressed with it at all. I can't say about the Trinity case you might have to take a gamble.

Hi, Mike and others -- I've had my N82 for two weeks now, my first smartphone after a 6160 (4 yrs) and a 6200 (4 yrs) (you can see I don't upgrade too often!). The N82 is a sweet phone! I've logged a lot of hours on info blogs though since I received it - fun research!

Anyway, I ordered and recently received a Trinity clip case after reviewing your site and others. A few comments...

-- Pros: the leather is smooth, thin, and pliable; the fit is quite good and snug with good alignment of the access holes on the upper half of the phone; the face of the case is clear plastic -- IMO it actually improves the tactile feel of the keypad adding a little more "surface" to each key with better actuation; the back opens by pulling two snaps to provide full exposure (no pun intended) to the camera lens and xenon flash; the snaps hold the back flap in place nicely (although they appear metallic and near the GPS antenna, I've not seen any adverse effect on GPS lock time); the clip works well on belt/waistband (what I prefer in a case);

-- Cons: after inserting the phone, the lower half of the case zips together via two zipper pulls -- the zipper pulls "jingle" when fully closed which is annoying especially when on the phone (If you zip them to the side and hold them in place, it's better. Nevertheless, I've considered removing the pulls - that would solve the problem); lower zippered case obstructs access to the camera and gallery buttons and the power port -- although, a simple slide of the zipper allows easy access to these; the microphone and lower speaker are also covered by the zipper but voice pickup (mic) and volume (speaker) do not seem adversely effected; the clear plastic front appears to "stick" to the phone display face looking like mositure under the case -- this probably happens with any clear plastic cover (and maybe more that I kept the factory protection film on the screen) -- this is not noticeable when the screen is backlit;

-- Overall: a very viable case clearly custom designed for the N82; no generic "fit" here; a leap beyond most other cases I've seen offered on the web; I drop my phone on occasion -- I definitely feel better about having this between my N82 and concrete; It was not very pricey at all as far as cases go - and I may even order another as a backup (before it disappears) when this wears out.

BTW, Mike, this site ROCKS and has been a tremendous help to me as a new N82 (and smartphone) owner and user. Thanks for your passion!

Mike: So did your actually order from the website link provided above?

And to the last user with the review: Where did you order your case from? Did you also use the link provided a few post back? Also, any pics you could provide? You can email to robv6661@yahoo.com Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Yes, I ordered from the link in the post. Got the case in about a week (eastcoast US). I'll try to snap some photos and send as soon as I can.

bigbandfan: Thanks for the reply. I'll be waiting for those pics :) Also, does the leather in the back interfere with the flash at all? In the website pics, it seems like the flash is partially covered.

Does anyone have the "Aquarium" case from the Trinity case line? It has a clear plastic back but I just wanted to know if there was a cutout where the camera lens/flash is. I'm assuming there would be since you need to move the slider down to activate the camera. Thanks a lot for the help!

Hi!
Trinity Aquarium case has a cutout for the camera. The shape of the cutout is the same as for UNI case. But UNI offers little more protection.

I'm getting the UNI case hopefully next week in the mail. I'll post pictures and a review.
