I'm trying to get to these types of posts more often, but I haven't had the chance in awhile. I know many of you are interested in whats going on all over the Symbian & Nokia community, so keep reading for some interesting articles I've came across in the past few weeks. You'll find information about over the air firmware updates, voip solutions, touch screens, and more.
Nokia N78 Gets The First "Over The Air" Firmware Update
We already have this option sitting in our N82's but Nokia has never applied it to the recent class of S60 phones. Yesterday it was announced that the new Nokia N78 would be getting the first OTA firmware update. Click here for an overview by Devin from The Nokia Guide. Will Nokia ever give us N82 owners this great option for updating our device? On a side note - I'm currently testing the Nokia N78 and I'm gonna be putting it through some major trials over the next few weeks. Click here to see my initial thoughts over at Symbian-Addict.com and keep checking back for more updates.
Nokia Buys Out Symbian - Plans To Make It Open Source
This was probably some of the biggest mobile news to hit the web this month, right behind the 3g iPhone announcement. Nokia bought out the remaining shares of Symbian and now plans to make it open source. What does this mean? Find out more at Nokia Conversations. While your there check out the rest of the site. It's run by Nokia employees where they talk about various things that have to do with Nokia & the mobile industry. You can leave comments & usually get replies. I think it's a great way for Nokia to be more open.
Hi-N-Bye. Answer, Reject Calls With Motion Instead Of Buttons
This is a very interesting application that Ricky from Symbian-Guru takes a very close look at. He says, "When your phone rings, you raise it up as if you were (naturally) looking at the screen to see who it is. To answer the phone, you then move it directly up to your ear - without pressing any buttons. Hi-N-Bye detects the movement combination, and answers the call." Read more of Ricky's thoughts at this link.
Nokia Creative & The N95 Photo Awards
We all know the N82 is the best mobile imaging device. But the N95 takes some damn good day pictures too. Check out the award winners for April & May over at James Burland's popular Nokia N95 Photo Awards article. What are you waiting for N82 owners? Show James what the N82 is capable of. Join the Nokia N82 User Group at Flickr and start uploading your best photos.
A Slew Of Audio Podcasts For The Mobile Community
Ricky from Symbian-Guru.com put together a great roundup of all his favorite mobile industry related podcasts. Click here to check it out.
Looking For A VOIP Solution? Look Here
I found two great S60 VOIP articles which give a detailed look at all the Voice Over Internet Protocal applications for Symbian S60. View this article by Antony from S60Tips.com and this article Amir from Mobile Space.
Sick Of Reading The News? Why Not Watch The News...
Check out Nokia Daily News for video updates of all the happenings in the Nokia coumminity. Sometimes you will find bits of this blog in his videos.
Multi-Touch Screen Powered By The Nokia N95 (also can be done with N82)
The possibilities are endless with Symbian S60 powered phones. A developer has come up with a way to use his N95 & any television to create a touchscreen presentation. Click here to see the details & video.
That's about all I have for now. There are plenty of more articles out there you just gotta skim through some of the links that you find here at this blog. If you have any interesting articles you've read please don't be shy and share them in the comments with the rest of us.
