just wanted to share a weird experience I'd while flying over India at 37k feets. I'd just taken off from Colombo and was 1 hour into the flight when my n82 which had been switched off completely at the time of take off started to vibrate as in when someone is calling you but your profile is set to 'Silent' (The mobile was on 'General' when I'd it switched off and note, it's not a calender alarm). I knew what was happening shouldn't happen but to my surprise, there was this question on screen asking 'Do you want to activate flight mode'? 'Yes' and 'No' as options to choose from. Without giving much thought to it, I pressed on 'No' and the mobile went back to dead (switched off) state. It's only much later did I realize how important whatever that was happening and should have at least enquired about it from the crew?. Anyhow, does anyone have any clue as to what was going on with my n82 at the time?? but I guess Nokia knows as it was well prepared for such in interference?

Hi Chamlika,

On planes, cellphones are not allowed as they may interfere on radio signals and devices. They are either asked to be turned off or, if supported by the phone, switched to offline or flight mode. In this mode, phone calls, bluetooth and any other similar features is not possible, to avoid interference.

In your case, since you turned your phone off before the flight, its weird that it turned itself on automatically as if it detected that you are at a certain feet high above the ground and concluded that the user is inside a plane wherein flight mode should be activated. This may be possible since the n82 has an accelerometer, or maybe it's GPS capability. But i haven't heard any of these features work even if the phone is off.

i mean, "maybe because of its GPS capability. But I haven't heard before that any of these features still work even if the phone is off"..

Hi everybody,

I'm thinking of buying the N82.
I've been using a Nokia 6681 since 2006, need an upgrade :)

I will be buying it in Sri Lanka or Dubai, and I have 2 questions regarding the cam.

1) The stores here and Dubai will have only "Made by Nokia" phones , ie made in china.
Will there be a degredation in picture quality between the chinese and Finnish phones?

2) Want to get the black version , heard the picture quality in the black is poor compared to the Titanium version, is this true.

Thank you very much in advance.
