How To Copy & Paste Text From A Message Or Email

There should be a built in feature on the Nokia N82 that easily allows you to copy and paste certain blocks of text from text messages and emails, but unfortunately there is not. So that means we are left to find a solution on our own. I often need to take a chunk of text and paste it into a field in the web browser or take it into and email. The only solution I know of looks like this...

1. Open the message you want to copy from
2. Options > Forward. This will give you a chance to copy and modify the text in that message.
3. Hold down the # key and highlight the text you want. While holding down # push the copy key and now it's on the clip board.
4. Go to your web browser or email that you need to paste the text in and once again hold down the # key and push paste.
5. Go back and delete the forward message you were creating.

Those are the steps I use. Maybe there is a better way and if so please let me know. I've found it extremely annoying that I can't just go in and grab some text right from the message.

After you press 'forward' you should also now have 'editing options' under your options list, which allow you to do this.

That works for me only sometimes. Possibly it only works if the email was _not_ an html message?

What I'd really like to know is how to _save_ an email. I have imap set up with gmail, and I don't see any way to save a message to a different folder. This is useful if you have say a flight itinerary that you want to be able to access quickly without scrolling through all of the other messages you've received since. I used to have a 3650, and I'm almost positive that it had the ability to save an email.

i just checked and can't find how to save an email. the only solution i can find is to open the .html attachement, there you can save the webpage to your phone. actually its a really horrible solution.

I never knew you can "hold" the # key! In fact, I would never think of pressing two keys simultaneously on any mobile device. THANKS!

Alright, so the # key is "shift", but which keys do u use for Copy and Paste? I tried #+2 and text was Cutted, I tried to with #+1 and #+3 and the text was cutted too. How do I paste it back?

I don't have an n82 but I imagine most s60 devices work the same. To select, cut, copy and paste text from the web browser, the text also has to be in a text entry field, just like in the email program. So, as a workaround, I built http://mobitol which pops the text content from whatever website you want into a text box for easy editing.

If T-9 is enabled, you may have to navigate away from the text you want to copy before hitting the # key if the T-9 software is trying to guess the word, as indicated by an underline.

As for saving emails, on my Nokia e61i I simply highlight the message I want to save and hit options->copy to folder. Do you not have that option on the n82?

You could try using gmail via the web browser, (as opposed to the gmail application.) It has an archive button- even works with html emails.

Hope all that works for the n82!
